Couples 'Mine, Yours, Ours' Joint & Separate Finances
Splits shared bills by income or 50/50, side by side, so couples with different incomes can agree on what's fair.
- Excel (.xlsx)
Who it's for: UK couples who share a household, keep some money separate, and want a fair, transparent way to split the bills.
About this template
When one partner earns more than the other, splitting bills 50/50 can leave the lower earner with far less to live on. This spreadsheet lays out the alternative: your money (Mine), their money (Yours), and the shared pot (Ours), with both an income-proportional split and a straight 50/50 split shown side by side in pounds, so a couple can agree on what feels fair rather than guessing.
The ten tabs include:
- A Setup page for both partners' incomes, paydays and chosen split mode
- Joint Bills with a live flag for whether each is due before, between or after both paydays
- Shared Goals tracking progress and months-to-go on things like a house deposit or holiday
- Mine and Yours tabs giving each partner their own income, bill share and personal spending
- An Ours (Joint View) tying it together with who-pays-what, goal progress and a payday cash-flow summary
- A Guide & UK Notes tab covering the 4-weekly-pay quirk and UK specifics like council tax and Marriage Allowance
Every calculation — both split modes, the savings goals and the payday timing — was hand-worked then independently re-checked cell by cell. 48 of 48 QA checks pass, shown on the file's QA & Version tab.
This is a budgeting tool, not financial advice — it shows the numbers for both approaches; the two of you choose.
